Server side lag: Isues are really only caused by one thing. Overloading a box with too many servers/players. Some, or most even game server hosts pack their boxes with as many gameservers/players as they can and hope they dont overload resources. lets say that a gameserver companies box can safely handle 10 servers with a maximum of 100 (active) player slots. Being that most servers are not always full, they may consider running 15 servers with 150 available slots and hope they dont get filled all at one time. Pretty good gamble but never the less its a gamble. They have the potential for lag when they go over that 100 (active) slot comfort zone. I beleive this is why the old pimp my skill was laggy at times but not always. A dedicated server such as ours can suffer from the same problem if we also push the limits of our resources. We make the choice not to,but we are not getting payed by the slot like a shared sever host is.

Client side lag:Is the main culprit in my opinion. Everyone wants to have the highest FPS possible with the best resolution, with substandard hardware, while downloading some tunes on their unpassworded wireless connection in the Baffin Islands. Is that you? Here are a few tips.
Not everyone can afford the latest machine. You dont have to have the best machine on the planet to play video games. You do however have to realize the limitations of your machine and connection.
Keep your machine updated with the latest windows updates
Keep you drivers updated on a regular basis
Do NOT have any other programs running in the background including ant-virus.
If you must use a wireless connection, password it so everyone in the Hood isnt using it.
If all these things are done and you are still lagging its time to lower your expectations of your particular machine. Try to lower you resolution.

Thanks for the info Gomi

Just out of curiosity, should there be a few players who have some bad lag, can that spread/harm other's ping/framerate? Goofy question, but it somehow makes sense to me that should a few people have high ping, it might affect everyone else.

Ive heard the same thing too Ryu, there is actually a default message that can be used in Rcon for people w high pings to leave, lol

From what I have read other players ping doesnt effect the other players. they say it only effects the person with bad ping.

Ah ok, thanks

As for the default message, I think that's just to keep the lagging people out so others don't complain about them teleporting or something

I know I'm late to this party, but had a question: Occasionally on PMS I've noticed some players who are "lag jumping" ie. while you are watching they move in freeze frame fashion from one spot to another, jumping about 5 virtual feet at a time. When I check their pings, it's usually 300 plus, so I guess I'm assuming this is an attribute of high ping. Is that true?

Yes and no. High ping will cause the teleport and a slow/over taxed computer w/ a low or high ping will also do it. Often is is a low end video card running w/ AA and/or high res monitor
